Bime Bike

Developed by the Renowned Bath Institute of Medical Engineering in close cooperation with members of the Restricted Growth Association in the United Kingdom, the BIME Bike is the result of a careful design evaluation and consultation process.

Where conventional cycles often present significant issues for people with restricted growth (achondroplasia), the BIME bike is designed to provide solutions. The frame geometry of the BIME has been significantly altered to provide a seat position which provides vertical and horizontal adjustments and a handlebar position which reflects a comfortable position for riders with shorter limbs.

Three sizes of cycles are available and are designed to suit riders from infants through to adults. The Large BIME model is fitted with a five speed shimano indexed gear system and front and rear V-style brakes. Alloy wheels with fitted mudguards, alloy ATB handlebars with easy to reach brake levers combine to enhance the performance and practicality for the riders.

The Small and Medium models are fitted with training wheels for extra stability and can be removed when the rider is ready to progress. The careful selection of components including shortened cranks to reduce the pedaling arc and smaller brake levers and narrow diameter handlebars ensure these bikes are fun to use and easy to control.
